About Makro Cape Gate
Makro’s journey in the retail industry has been transformative, evolving from a prominent warehouse chain to introducing a user-friendly online shopping platform. The brand offers a diverse range of products, including food, the latest electronics, houseware, camping gear, and liquor. Across South Africa, 22 Makro stores provide both convenience and affordability to local communities and businesses. The addition of e-commerce extends Makro’s offerings and value-added services to a wider audience.
Since its inaugural store in 1971 in Germiston, Makro has experienced significant growth. It was South Africa’s first cash-and-carry store, utilizing advanced technology for inventory and sales management. By 1989, under the leadership of MD Mark Lamberti, the brand expanded, laying the foundation for Massmart, a leading wholesale and retail group, with Makro as its cornerstone. The renowned Woodmead store, established in 1993, stands out as a key retail destination in Johannesburg’s northern suburbs.
The 2011 merger with Massmart and the global retail giant Walmart further diversified Makro’s offerings, enhancing the variety and affordability of its products. 2014 marked a significant step in Makro’s digital progression with the launch of its e-commerce platform, further enriching the customer shopping experience with the convenience of online browsing and purchasing.

Online order not delivered and delivery was supposed to take place 3 days ago. I have now contacted the customer service centre 4 times, the last time they supposedly put me through to the manager of the Cape Gate branch, who appears to have hung up on me. The service centre itself has hung up on me twice, and not once has somebody phoned me back (they have my cell number).
