Raithby is a picturesque and historic village situated off the R44, perfectly positioned between the towns of Somerset West and Stellenbosch. Established in 1844 by the Wesleyan missionary Reverend Barnabas Shaw, the village was intended as a settlement for freed slaves following the abolition of slavery in the Cape.
